Prior work experience:
- Annu Singh has worked in the NGO sector for seven years. She has been engaged in the field of women’s health and Rights and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Rights and Policy Advocacy. She has also been associated with an Oxfam India funded school, where she closely worked with slum children. She has also worked on HIV issues.
Key work during fellowship
- In Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh) I worked with young people on issues of sexual and reproductive health & rights and policy advocacy under SABLA in partnership with a local organization.
What was done:
- Initiated the SABLA program in 20 Gram Panchayats in 2 blocks.
Facilitated in establishing a network of 800 young people (including some who are Bharat Nirman Volunteers) and 100 youth leaders.
Trained the youth volunteers on issues of SRHR and policy advocacy under SABLA in partnership with a local organization.
Assisted the district administration in implementing the model through out the district.
- 100 youth leaders from Mirzapur are now advocating as part of a larger Youth Policy Network of around 15000 young people who are campaigning for the enactment of Uttar Pradesh Youth Policy in all the districts of UP.
