Prior work experience:
- Minakshee Sandha has worked for five years in the IT sector. She has worked with the CSR wing of Tata Consultancy Services where she was involved in rural development initiatives and worked for women’s empowerment by organizing tailoring training and was also involved in English education of rural school children.
Key work during fellowship
- The govt. induced development is unsustainable and unsatisfactory due to non-participation of the community
What was done:
- “Apna school “ – A community owned school for people of all age group is started with around 100 people attending daily.
They learn about reading, writing , speaking & computer skills.
They also discuss on social issues affecting their village and how to tackle them.
They take out rallies on Sundays on the issues of sanitation, alcoholism etc.
- Children & youth are playing a key role in holistic development of their village.
Alcoholism and open defecation is controlled due to peer pressure created by them.
50 youth have become village volunteers within 15 days.
