Prior work experience:

  • Shila Matang has extensively worked on issues of public health during her two-and-a-half years of work experience prior to the fellowship. She has worked with the Gujarat State Government AIDS Control Society. She was also in Rajasthan where she worked on issues of women’s reproductive health and public health issues in urban slums. Her stint in Jharkhand involved work on adolescent health issues.

  • Awareness camps through Handicrafts Department and Banks
    Stakeholder consultation
    Opportunity Analysis of Local market availability for Kashmiri Ari work
    departmental convergence – Handicrafts , handloom , Induscos and Tourism department – Analysis of available resources to scale up marketing

Impact:

  • 11 Groups and 50 individual artisans registered with Handicrafts Department
    Revival of 50 – member Arki shawl cooperative – through Ambedkar Hastshilpi Yojna of Handicrafts department
    Local market – stole of handmade products on Srinagar – Gulmarg Highway during tourist seasons through Panchyat Fund
