Prior work experience:

  • Worked for one year and eleven months with Development Support Agency of Gujarat (D-SAG), Gandhinagar as a project consultant and deputed at Tribal sub-plan office, Khedbrahma of Himmatnagar district (at present Khedbrahma district). Responsibility was to look after livelihood projects for planning, execution, monitoring, evaluation, organizing review meetings, documentation and reporting of Dairy, Project sunshine, Skill training and Financial inclusion of four blocks of the district.

One key work during fellowship

  • The performance of Public Distribution system of Chhattarpur block was poor as it involved ample stages for delivery of rice, kerosin oil and other articles to stakeholders as a reason there persisted problems like – proliferation of rice and kerosin oil, irregular in rice distribution, lack of rashan card for needy, making no entry in rashan cards etc.

What was done:

  • First and foremost, a study was conducted at five panchayats of chhattarpur block and attempt was made to ascertain bottlenecks on the delivery system. At the same time meetings were organized at each village (60) with stakeholders (270) and their issues and problems were well noted. During this exercise certain document verification was also carried out such as verification of registers, (receipt and issue) rashan cards, method of measurement and other receipts related to PDS of both state food corporation office at block and of dealers. After having studied a report was made and discussed with the Sub-divisional officer. Considering the problems of stakeholders with regards to PDS/dealers we arrived at certain decision – appointed public representative to be present at fair price shop during rice distribution, ensuring entry at register by the dealers, lifting rice and kerosin oil from block godown on time, regular distribution of rice and kerosin oil etc. report to SDO by public representatives on weekly basis, public complain will be given priority for investigation and would be positive then license of the respective dealer would be terminated. This decision was circulated to all dealers, Marketing officer and deputy commissioner.

  • One month later after circulation of this decision a village visit was made to feel the impact of the action taken and found that it was working and during the meetings at villages it was found that out of 270 stakeholders 254 families give satisfactory response stating the improvement of PDS system at the respective 60 villages of 5 panchayats. perceiving the good result of it, same system was implemented in all 22 panchayats of chhattarpur block and it is doing well.
