Less number of patients turn out to the District Disability and Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) for the treatment at the District hospital, Chhindwara was found. For the 8 months period before starting the DEIC (District Early Intervention Centre for 0-6 year old ), that is from April, 2014 to
November end, nearly 750 patients visited to DEIC, with a daily average of 3 – 4
patients. to avail the specialist services like Physiotheraphy, Psychologist, Mobility Instructor, Speech related etc.
What was done:
We worked in coordination with several departments like Health department, Women and Child Development and Department of Social Justice & Empowerment. Also with the support of District administration, I have made a detailed plan to establish the lodging and boarding facilities (including free food & reimbursement of Rs 70 /day to patients guardian if they were economically backround) and travel allowance too for the patients coming from far off blocks and who needed 7 – 10 days of treatment. We provided 10 bedded facility at the Dharmashala of District Hospital. All this has been done by careful planning and utilising the unused fund from “Disability Fund (Nirashrit Nidhi) ” of Department of Social Justice.
But since DEIC inception from December 3rd, 1720 patients have been treated /
counselled, with a daily average of 8 patients. For the first 4 months period i.e, from
December to March, 774 patients have visited. For the next 4 months period i.e, from
April to July, totally 950 patients have visited, with an average of 8 – 9 patients daily, which has doubled when compared to 8 month period before. Increase in second 4 month period was attributable to provision of free lodging, boarding, food and reimbursement of travel expenses and loss of pay of Rs. 70 per day.
