- The state of Maharashtra is repeatedly facing drought situation.therefore government has launched “jalyukta shiwar abhiyan” to make Maharashtra drought free in next 5 years. various works like CNB construction .nala deepening, disilting and awareness among farmer were undertaken.Though Gondia receives plenty rainfall only one crop dominates the agriculture that is paddy. After it is harvested land lies fallow for around 6 months. Therefore protective irrigation was the need of the region.
What was done:
- It was a convergence exercise where we were coordinating irrigation, agriculture and ,Geological survey department.I was appointed nodal officer.we selected 94 villages based on various criteria and distributed the work to be done among various agencies.special emphasis was given on creating awareness.we created farmers group who took care of dams in their area.
- At the end of one year water table in district has risen .This is important because this year was the year of deficient rainfall.People are now asking to include their name in the programme.we were successful in mobalising large CSR fund.OUT OF 1058 works started we were able to complete 830 works.11000 hectares was brought under irrigation.More accurate analysis could be done only after 5 years are completed.
