Education:Master of Management Studies, BITS, Pilani, 2002-06
Prior work experience:
- IT Consultant, Capgemini India, Hyderabad, 2010-13; Software Engineer, Mahindra Satyam, 2006-10
One key work during fellowship
- School Management Committee (SMC) Formation
Issue – Earlier, most of the SMCs of Malkangiri district were confined to paper where teachers used to just write a few names in the register but the members of SMCs don’t even know that they are a part of the committee. None of them are aware of the roles, responsibilities & powers of SMCs and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
What was done:
- We have trained all the CRCCs & Block level officials on the guidelines of SMC formation. A brief booklet was designed which has to be read out during the PTA meeting for creating awareness and selection of SMC members among them. We have asked all the officials to take video & specific photographs of the event like attendance, raise of hands for selecting SMC members etc. A team is formed with district level officials who will make random visits to the schools. All the photographs & videos are monitored at the district level.
- I lead the formation of SMCs in 1396 schools across 1100 villages in the district. While earlier SMCs were confined just to letter, with meticulous planning, I have ensured that SMCs are formed in letter & spirit. More than 20,000 people got basic training and 7000 people got advanced training on Right to Education (RTE) Act, roles, responsibilities & powers of SMC and PTA.
We hope this will enhance community participation & ownership of local school development.
