- Tribal fishermen prevented from exercising fishing rights in local water bodies due to non- tribal monopoly and lack of adequate fishing implements in Khammam District
What was done:
- Organized 800 tribal fishermen into cooperative societies for fishing in 3 reservoirs and 20 Minor Irrigation tanks
Convergence between Fisheries, Tribal Welfare Departments using NFDB, TSP and IAP funds
Capacity building to improve fishing skills
Providing implements like boats, nets, moped with ice boxes, auto trolleys to take up fishing and marketing on large scale
- Large scale fishing taken up by one tribal society in 2014
Large scale fishing to be taken up by 3 tribal societies in 2015.
Formation of 20 more tribal fishermen societies by end of 2015.
Increase in income to Rs. 10000 per fisherman per month during summer season when there are no other sources of income
